The LIRS Congressional briefing last Thursday was a great success! We had 458 people register for the event with 357 tuning in live. The audience was very diverse and made up of Congressional staff, faith organizations and leaders, congregation staff, national resettlement agencies, our local resettlement partners, national organizations and think tanks, and a few universities.
Last week was quite a busy week on the Hill with budget and COVID negotiations happening simultaneously, and other virtual immigration-related conferences were also happening on the same day. Even so, we were able to get 46 congressional staff to attend from 42 different offices (38 Dem /4 Repub. Offices & 34 House /8 Senate offices). We also had some state-level government staff attend from NY Office of New Americans, City of Portland, City of Nashville, and Albany County. That was a first!
During the briefing, LIRS rolled out a list of advocacy priorities for the next administration. Links to a short clip of the priorities and the full briefing are listed below. Thanks to those of you who listened in! A hardcopy of the priorities will be released soon.
